Aspen

We did a day trip to Aspen from Keystone. What looks on the map like a 1 hour drive is actually a 2 hour drive, thanks to Independance Pass. This is the quite the thrill ride, with lots of sheer dropoffs and narrow how-can-two-cars-fit sections. We enjoyed it immensely.

Aspen itself was pretty cool, although the town was basically an outdoor mall - lots of high-end retailers. We took a walk through some of the residential sections, and they were quite nice - even if a small 2 bedroom house goes for $2.5 million. We found a great playground for Michael at a day care facility, and we had fun playing by some fountains.

Took a quick trip to the Maroon Bells, and I wish we could have stayed there for a few days. It was the closest I had felt (up to this point) to being on one of our other trips - quiet trail, few people, very photogenic. Easily could have set up camp there and spend a couple days hiking. Another time...
